| Lagos | Arrive in Lagos tomorrow for a short break ... suggestions and helpful tips please ! Posted: Wed July 30, 2008 09:00 AM UTC
It 's our first time in Lagos or Portugal for that matter !
Any suggestions for making the trip a MAJOR success :) Must see places ?? Best places to eat out - any little cafe you absolutely LOVE ?? My wife will eat virtually anything I am fussy and only eat plain and boring English / American type of food . Best places to snorkel - we need rocks and cliffs for that so long sandy beaches are useless for finding fish . We ave be warned AGAINST hiring a car as the locals drive like race drivers plus we have never driven on the WRONG side of the road . Any other tips ?? Thanks in advance ! |

You could visit Faro; the capital of Algarve. It has a nice old core.
About restaurants in Lagos you will have a good choice. I only ate a good sandwitch at a cafe-restaurant looking on the sea. I don't remember the name at the moment.

Must see places:
- the beaches of course - the small ones (a bit crowded this time of the year but still beautiful)like D.Ana and Praia do Pinhão are beautiful and have lots of rocks and cliffs..I'm just not sure about finding fish..but I don't usually go snorkeling so I really don't know. - Lagos downtown: just have a walk, start at Praça Gil Eanes, go to Rua 25 de Abril (recently it was changed into a limited traffic zone)until you reach to Praça da República. Near this square there's the Igreja de Sto.António (St.Anthony's Church) that is amazingly filled with gold leaf covered wood carvings. If you're into concerts and art exhibitions, in that same area there's Centro Cultural de Lagos - there is a small Jazz Festival that will beggin on 13th August. - Visit the Marina and just chill out in one of the cafés or bars. A good place to eat at lunch would be Linda's Beach Bar in Meia Praia - they have good burguers but also have lots of different salads and a few typical dishes. Bahia's (the next bar on the beach) is nice, too. Pick a restaurant downtown and try the seafood or the fresh fish. There's also some fast food places like MacDonalds or Burguer Ranch and there are plenty of pizzarias and Italian restaurants (I really nice one would be Bella Italia). For a inexpensive popular place to eat go to Adega da Marina on Av. dos Descobrimentos - they have good thick steaks, fresh fish and sometimes clams and shrimps. Hope that the tips will help
