You have not given us a clue as to what your interests are but there is plenty to keep most people occupied in the revitalised city of Valencia - which is practically on the coast.
Take a look at the VT Travel Pages for Reviews and Tips and at the Forum for questions and answers. You will be able to pick out those things that interest YOU.
It is likely to be pretty hot in August.
Good Luck

I would like to see some of the culture valencia has to offer, arts and major buildings. I would also like to take a train along the coast for a day or two, with the chance to catch a beach. I have looked at the map, do you know what Alboraia, Sueco etc are worth visiting.

Thanks for the information

I only know Alboraya from going through on the train - I recall a busy looking town. We drove into Sueca once in March about 7/8 years ago and had a look round the centre - some nice old buildings but most places closed for lunch and after a quick lunch we pressed on.
I don't really like the beaches along the Spanish Mediterranean - in Valencia they are mostly backed by hectares of flat agricultural land, including rice fields, and /or high rise buildings. So sorry not much help on that one but they must be good - thousands go there - I just prefer rocky little coves surrounded by cliffs.

If you are arriving in Valencia by train notice the entrance hall. The museum of fine arts has a good collection and is in a beautiful building. And of course you will want to see all the modern stuff. See Vt
