| Dublin | Dublin Airport to Malahide - how long? Posted: Mon July 28, 2008 12:15 PM UTC
If my incoming flight is on time, I will have five hours until my next flight, not enough time to go to Dublin. I was reading the questions in the Dublin forum and Katherine suggested a taxi to Malahide.
Without the time needed for security and check-in, I will have about three hours on a Tuesday, early afternoon in August. Will this be enough time to go to Malahide? How much would a taxi be? Or should I just get a thick book and read? Thank you for your help. |

Hi Christine,
I think you would be fine going there when you have 3 hrs of spare time there at the airport. Enjoy your trip! Alexandra

Thank you, Alexandra. Even if it's just for a short time, it's better than sitting in the airport for several hours.

A possible alternative is to use the Business for that good book. You can enjoy the comfort and relaxing atmosphere of the Dublin Airport Anna Livia Lounge for up to three hours - for Euros. Services include: complimentary refreshments, newspapers and magazines, dedicated free internet access, notification of delays and flight times. I'm thinking the cost is not much more than the taxi and it is a very nice way relax while you wait for that flight.

Thanks, I'll make a note of that. In case my first flight is delayed or it's pouring with rain this will be a relaxing way to wait.

Christine,
Malahide is 6 miles from Dublin airport and would take about 15/20 min depending on traffic/route taken etc. It is rather difficult to give an estimate of cost, you could check a website like www.taxis.ie and try to calculate it yourself. I'm guessing under €20 but don't hold me to it! You could also Google Dublin airport taxis and email some of the companies for a quote. You could check out tips from VTers on Malahide for things to do;given the short duration of your visit I'd say either do the Castle OR take a stroll around the Marina and along the seafront. For peace of mind give yourself lots of time to get back to the airport. If the weather is bad i think the previous suggestion of using the Anna Livia lounge is the best option - the airport itself can be manic and not very relaxing but I hope you get the cahance to escape! All the best, Anne Marie

Anne Marie, thank you for the detailed reply. I looked at the VT pages about Malahide and would like to go to the marina for a stroll. The castle would be too rushed, I think.
