Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Toronto Where are the different national areas in Toronto?
Posted: Mon July 28, 2008 04:20 AM UTC
Hello all,

I am interested about Toronto's districts.
Especially about nationalities. Where are the different national areas?
For example - where is China town or Indian area.
It is very interesting for me to visit these areas and compare the enviroments there. And how people change different areas for them selves according to their habits and culture.

Thank you.

China town is in the University Avenue and Dundas Street area in downtown Toronto. Its close to the Toronto City Hall.

Indian areas are on Gerrad Street where there a lots of east Indian shops and food outlets.

There may be more thatn one area where various groups settle.

Old China Town is on Spadina but now Chinese live most everywher but in particulay, Richmond Hill, Markham ,Agincourt, etc.

Italians are grouped on St. Clair West , but are now predominately in the Woodbridge area. and many other areas.

Greeks are in the Danforth area, bur can now be anywhere.

Portugese on West Dundas and St. Clair west

Polish in Bloor West Village or Etobicoke but could be anywhere.

Croatians in Streetsville

Vietnames at Broadview and Gerrard.

Indians on Gerrard East but more around highway 7.

Russians ?? Used to be Bathurst north of Finch but now I would say Thornhill . Could be anywhere.

It's not easy to generalize.

The location of food stores that specialize in foods from a particular country will give you an indication.
