Quito Hotel...Fuente de Piedra II/danger of Quito
Posted: Sun July 27, 2008 05:00 PM UTC
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am spending 4 days in Quito at the Fuente De Piedra II hotel booked by my travel agent on Bas Quend 721...I understand it is in the middle of the Marsical district and we are four woman staying in that hotel...I have read the forums on the dangers and warnings of this district and I have to say that I am a little apprehensive...Has anyone known of this hotel? Do I have to spend my evening sitting in the hotel room or is that dangerous to venture out at night in a group..I have read mixed warnings. Some people say it is safe but be careful and others say that it is completely dangerous...Any feedback?

I'm not shure about this district.
But in general it shouldn't be a problem in a group of 4. Just observe common security rules...

- in the night avoid dark streets without people
- walk only along the main streets
- do not accompany with strangers to other parts of the city
- do not take curious taxis on the street (call them from a taxi company if you need one)
- do not wear adornment, expensive watches etc.

Bfoxy,

I do not the Hotel per se... but the Mariscal area is one of the where the majority of tourists stay in Quito.. It has a great congregation of hostels and hotels as well as a lot of schools where Spanish is taught. It is the part of Quito's nigthlife, full of bars, internet cafes and clubs. It is always crowded especially on the weekends at all times of the day and night. You will be safe. Like anywhere else use your common sense if you stay out late at night, although like I said the area is always full of people and also there is police at almost every corner to direct traffic... even late at night. Have fun and enjoy!

La Mariscal is one of the most touristy neighbourhoods in Quito because of its nightlife. It's full of restaurants and bars. You shouldn't feel unsafe, just use common sense like in anywhere in the world.

No worries, I don´t know the hotel, cause I always stayed in another one which I liked very much. The neighborhood is safe, as safe as in any big touristy city... be carefull with pickpocketers, don´t walk into dark alleys, be carefull of suspicous guys on the street... that is all! I have been in Quito al together almost a month and nothing has ever happend.
