There is Armed Forces Day on the 1st and National Foundation Day on the 3rd of October, but there is no festival or anything associated with either if that's why you are asking. There may possibly be some sort of ceremony at the War Memorial Museum for Armed Forces Day.

You should check out the Seoul International Drum Festival http://www.drumfestival.org/ which is usually held in early October. The website currently still has the 2007 information up, but you could contact them for details about the upcoming 2008 festival.

thanks for the replies! I'm actually targeting to go to Korea during the days that are not holiday, so at least the prices won't be more expensive

Well...generally, in Korea, prices do not go up due to holidays. However, fortunately, you will be missing the Chuseok Holiday which will occur in September this year. During those 3 days travel would be a nightmare for you as Koreans travel to their hometowns during that holiday. The only price that may go up during those time is the price of lodging and transportation.

Hello. I'm a native Korean.
1st of October used to be a 'red day' (we call holidays as red day becuz all holidays are red colored in our calendars) but it is not a national holiday anymore. Tour price will be the same with other weekdays. But 3rd of October is definately a national holiday. Means, it would be more expensive to take trip. Enjoy your trip!! :-)
