Getting for from Dresden to Saxony Switzerland?

Hello pals!
i heard its highly recommended visiting in the Sashsische schwiez but i can't find how can i get there without having a car or taxi from Dresden in a reasonable price and how to navigate there...
and if its possible how is it possible getting there to Festung Konigstein(Königstein Fortress)?

It is possible to travel by train and bus. You even can make boat trips on the River Elbe. See for more information: http://www.saxony-switzerland.de/

If you click on 'Suburban Railway"you will be connected to the website of the German railway Company: DB Bahn. You can again choose your language on a scroll menu.

There are half hourly S-Bahn trains from Dresden to Königstein. Travel time is 41 minutes. Day ticket for the whole VVO network is EUR 11,00. With this ticket you can also use the trams and buses in Dresden. Furthermore the VVO includes Elbe ferries (not the steam boats!), mountain railways and narrow gauge (steam) railways.

Are of course much slower. Single ticket is EUR 15,80. Return EUR 20,50 - but I would not do both ways by boat.

Koenigsstein is a nice and really big castle and you have great views from there. If you want to see some proper natural beauty in the Saechsische Schweiz you should definitely check out the 'Bastei'. You can easily reach it by train (the one that goes to Koenigsstein and Schoena), just get off at Rathen station. You then have to cross the Elbe river by ferry and walk up to the 'Bastei'. Definitely worth going there.

Correction: the Day Ticket for 11 Euro does NOT include the narrow-gauge steam trains, and it does NOT include the mountain railways in Dresden (you get a reduction on the fare here). And it does NOT cover the ferry in Rathen (for Bastei).

Besides, it is quite a hike up from Königstein to the fortress. Takes about 45 minutes if I recall correctly. Or you use the bus #241 that runs between Pirna and Königstein (and beyond). Make sure to enter "Königstein Festung" for the bus stop.
