| Naples | train from naples to rome Posted: Fri July 25, 2008 09:33 PM UTC
we,would like to go from sorrento to rome. we know that you take the circumvesuviana train to naples and that you catch a train to rome in the same station, but when we went on the trenitalia website, it said some trains (ES) left from Garibali and some trains left from Napoli centre (IC). Are these two different stations? Also, which train would you suggest, as the prices vary considerably (we are in no rush) and do you have to make a reservation in advance for second class?

The two train stations are in the same physical location, but one is ground level (Napoli Centrale) and the other below ground. You need to make a reservation for second class on Eurostar trains including the AV (Alta Velocita') and IC (Intercity) trains. No matter which train you take, if you don't reserve a seat, you're not guaranteed a seat...i.e. you might be sitting on your luggage the entire way. Not terribly likely, except on busy holidays or weekends.

hi,
I've just got back from Sorrento. We took the train from Rome to Naples on a monday and bought our tickets from the machine where you can also book your seats 5 minutes before jumping on the train. There was plenty of spare space. We took the train from Naples back to Rome yesterday and again bought the tickets at the desk and jumped straight on with automatically allocated seats- That train was almost empty. From my experience booking does not seem necessary but maybe we were lucky. Have fun.
