| Turkey | Current YTL Rates Posted: Fri July 25, 2008 07:34 PM UTC
Merhaba,
I'm off to Turkey on Monday and am curious about the current rate of YTL against the GB Pound. It is fairly low in UK and so I have decided not to change any money before I go, hoping that the banks will beat the UK rates... we shall see ;o) |

I think changing here better. Rates for buying:2,3870 selling: 2,3990YTL for 1 pound. It is changing everyday a bit. For little amounts of money, instead of banks exchange bureaus can be better...

Definately not gone euro, as not in it. Look here at my page, click on exchange rates and use Turkey-TRY.

You should have some lira upon arrival but I recommend changing most of your money at an ATM in Turkey as long as you are staying in major cities. First, the lira ís still unstable. The value decreased by a bit while I was there from the last week in May to the first week in June. Second, I believe you are better off traveling with as little cash as possible and the ATM rates are usually the best you can get. (Assuming your bank does not charge you an arm and a leg to withdraw from and ATM in another country). If you have to change you money anywhere else, ie. hotel or bank, you are better off getting the lira at home, and at Forex you can change your money back at no extra charge. Hope this helps. Have fun!

I exchanged to some lira the first time I went to Turkey.
For the other 20ish times I do NOT change before! ATM's are everywhere in Turkey now. Enjoy your time in Turkey :) pst, have some GBP ready for your visa. Goes quiclier if you have correct amount.
