Blackpool Accommodation During the Rebellion Punkfest August 7th - 10th 2008 Posted: Fri July 25, 2008 10:56 AM UTC
Can any of youse eggheads give me any indication of how easy/difficult it'll be for me to find pleasant but inexpensive guesthouse accommodation (with ensuite) in August during the Rebellion Punkfest (7/8/9/10th)?
What mistakes shouldn't I make? I'm guessing that I may be emerging from the Winter Gardens at around 2.00 a.m. each night so public transport'll be thin on the ground and also yer average guesthouse won't relish punters coming back in at such a late hour, will they?
I'll need to be within walking distance of the Winter Gardens, won't I? Which probably means the most popular hotels will be in that area and they'll all be booked up.
And do the locals beat the crap out of punks who wander around late at night? Or is every night party night in Blackpool in August, with jolly persons filling the streets till 4.00 a.m., exchanging good-natured banter and witty repartee as opposed to kicking people's heads in?

catch a load of "bouncers" ITV Thursday evening to see typical goings - on on the Blackpool pub & club scene
watch it last night and its hilarious some of the guys reporting that girls would do anything with em to get in a paricular place made me smile
but they do say "beer goggles" do wonderful things for you LOL
i would be prone to taking care with your dress sense ( or make sure you are around several of your ilk ) otherwise you may get "picked on"
Enjoy Blackkie

HAHA! I was about to say that!
I went to get in one club... they let me in, I paid, and then when i was at the bar I got dragged out by two of the biggest bouncers going saying I looked smacked off it. Charming. That was as soon as I got there. I was not best impressed!!!

Charming. About 3 hours after I got there I saw a massive street fight with glass bottles thrown and everything. Great introduction!

Its the other visitors you should be more wary of not the locals! Stag n Hen parties stagger around night AND day - behaviour ranging from loud high spirits through to drunken oblivion and outright aggression. And thats just the women! (I'm not joking either). The town centre is best avoided in the early hours - especially the Talbot Square area (around Yates/Rumours/North Pier), although the Winter Gardens itself is also on the edge of the centre. The Prom is also a magnet for drunks in the early hours and best avoided.
There are some hotel links below which are on Albert Rd - just a couple of minutes walk from the Winter Gardens - you could check availability - as hotels they will be used to guests coming in late doors.(I have no knowledge of standards, just know they are on that road).

Very many thanks - this is all good stuff.
Fortunately I don't look smacked off, though what I'll look like after listening to punk for 13 hours a day for four consecutive days (with maybe 6 hours sleep per night) I don't know.
Maybe I'll need an hotel that serves breakfast until lunchtime?
Yes, I'd noticed how many hotels say 'No Stag or Hen Parties' in their publicity literature. Makes sense to me. If I ran an hotel, I wouldn't want to tackle vomit-soaked bedding every day, that's for sure. I think they should also ban deeley boppers, just in case, even if it's old grannies wearing them.

It's not the best place to go out at night. I live here and I love it but that's more to do with the friends that I have here and the fact that I live right next to Stanley Park which is lovely. However, I do tend to avoid going into town during the Summer months for all the reasons noted above and stick to the local boozers which are quite nice. I hope you have a great time here anyway :-)

To save you looking for B&B guest houses individually try: www.blackpoolbedandbreakfast.co.uk There's a good selection of local accommodation there. I'm not sure how individual B&B's deal with guests coming in at late hours but I'm sure if you're quiet and don't wake anyone up then there won't be a problem :-)
