I presume you are talking about the city of Bauru in the state of Sao Paulo, 290km/180 miles from Grande Sao Paulo (the city). If you don't get an answer here from someone who knows the state well enough to advise you, try posting on the forum of the expat site www.gringoes.com where you may be more likely to find some residents who may know Bauru.

Sao Paolo is home to nearly 2 million orientals.. so you would fit in well with your looks but brasilian orientals (nikkei) are thoroughly brasilian in their behaviour and comportment. some of the best japanese food outside japan is in sao paolo.
Hope you know people in SP, it is not safe to wander around by yourself. It is a highly cultured city and hope you speak a little bit of Portuguese, otherwise communications would be a little difficult, eventhough many professionals speak English.
To me, it is one of the more exciting cities in the americas and enjoy your stay there..
i have been to both Kl and SP and in terms of danger, i woudl rate KL at 1 and SP at 7. I have good friends there so they know so i did not feel threatened at all..but i would be afraid to walk around some neighbourhoods alone.
