Hi,I may be heading here alone late August for a personal retreat. Is it generally safe for a girl travelling alone here?

Am considering the Burasari Hotel or Seaview Patong Hotel in the Patong area.Or is there a better area to be in? Looking for a place with nice facilities, not far from thoroughfare but yet quiet, where i can walk out to get reasonably priced food. Yes food is a big consideration haha.

Phuket is perfectly safe for a solo traveller. I have had no problems at all, but of course follow normal safety procedures such as taking care of your belongings and keeping away from quiet, dimly lit streets at night.
Patong is a busy place (which is what I prefer) with loads of great eating spots But if you prefer a quiet location, there are some lovely places to stay nearby, such as Kata & Karon beach. I'll leave it to the Phuket experts
to suggest hotels. I have stayed at both the Anadaman Beach Club and the Baan Suthoki Hotel (spelling a but hit & miss), both nice mid-range hotels close to everything.

I would agree that Thailand in general is a safe place for solo travellers - one erason why so many go there. With regard to eating cheap in Patong please read by travel pages for some useful tips.
