Is it possible to buy international phone cards (to call Australia) in Dubai? Would they also work in Oman, or would I have to buy another one there?

Also, I'm looking for a nice restaurant, not TOO expensive, but fun. We'll be staying in the Deira area (?).

You can purchase an Ahlan line from Dubai airport and then call anywhere you want. Ahlan does have roaming service so it can be used in Oman as well. Deira has got many restaurants with various types of foods, depending to your location you may find a lot of them around the place you intend to stay.

For "fun" restaurants, try Zorba's Greek Restaurant (smashing plates) in the Khaleej Palace Hotel... or the Russian restaurant in the Metropolitan Hotel Deira (live traditional dancing, etc.).
(these are both 4-star hotels, so prices are lower)

For authentic Indian food where all the "local" Indian residents of the city eat, try DELHI DARBAR. Tel: 04-2733444 (Naif Road, not licensed to serve alcoholic beverages)
