Ok, I am super ticked-off right now...

So, I booked 2 weeks off work (this coming week and next) to be able to do an intensive dance program that I got put on scholarship for. I got my vacation time and everything was fine and dandy. Until a few minutes ago.

I got an email from the organizer/coordinator of the workshop (the same person who did the workshop that Travis Wall came to town to teach in) and I figured it would be all the info about the upcoming 2-week dance intensive.

It wasn't - it was a message saying that the intensive has been postponed a week. She's choreographing/producing a show in town and is busy with that, so she had to postpone the workshop. WHY THE FRIG DID SHE NOT TELL US THIS WEEKS AGO?!?!?!?! I might have been able to change my vacation time at work!

So next week, I'll have nothing to do. The week after, I get a full dance week. And for the week after that, I'm going to have to ask for shorter shifts at work to be able to attend most of the workshops. This postponement has just thrown a monkey wrench into my plans for the next few weeks, and possibly my upcoming move to another city (I was hoping to be gone by September, I might have to wait at least a few weeks).

I'm sure I won't be the only person who is super ticked-off about this. After all, not all who registered for this are young teens who don't work much and/or have to be careful with money (I'm on scholarship for it so my main concern is missing work). I can understand her being busy with the show and all, but why couldn't she just have made a decision earlier this month so that it would be easy to plan for it? Grrr...

Anyone else have stories about big last-minute changes that threw a monkey wrench into your plans?

I sympathize with you. I think that was quite inconsiderate of her---she must never have thought how that might impact a participant!

I've had many disappointments in life, but none big enough to bring me down. I do recall a disappointing change in plans when I was a teenager and was going with a group of other teens and chaperones on what was to be a week-long camping trip to Sebago Lake in Maine. We'd been there before and simply loved it. We took a week to get ready for it--we were taking a school bus---and had fun preparing for it. The day before we were to leave it was unexpectedly cancelled. For the life of me I can't remember why it was cancelled but it wasn't because of any tragedy or anything. Talk about disappointed! It was never re-scheduled, either. I got over it, but shed a tear or two before I could.

what a bummer

i never planned much as i quickly learned plans can be messed with

one particular occasion comes to mind

when i was 18 and nursing i had arranged to go out on the Friday night as i was on day shift friday and off saturday - my sister and her mates were off to Sheffield for a visit to the Beer Cellar ( big thing in those far off days - nights away in another city or town seem the norm for kids today) -- anyway the bloody charge nurse put me on escort duty < taking a patient to another hospital for tests>( never usually a Day Shift job) and when we were waiting for ambulance to bring us home the poor bloke decided to have chest pains and the ambulance crew had no choice but to take us from one hospital ( without a casualty unit) to another one that had one

Needless to say i didn't make the beer cellar that night even though thr crew who eventually took us home "blue - lighted" all the way down the motorway

And the Bloody Charge Nurse had not even passed the message on to the evening shift supervisor that we were away

Neither the patient or myself had been missed LOL

Update - I was able to switch my vacation time at work, so I'll be able to do the whole workshop! Yay! I can't wait...
