London First time in London

I am arriving to Heathrow (first time in London) on August 27th, staying 5 nights. What kind of weather should I expect? Does anyone knows how much taxi ride is going to cost from the airport to my hotels which is next to South Kensington Station? Thank you all

Weather in August should normally be fine - since August is generally the warmest month.
Why take a taxi from the airport - the Underground's Picadilly Line goes directly from all terminals at Heathrow right into the heart of London - quicker and cheaper!!

Hello,
Weather in UK is unpredictable. You might have heard the old british saying. Dont trust three W's in UK, Weather Women and Work.
You can check out the weather at http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather
always carry umbrella to avoid small drizzles

Hi Olya

London weather...mmm...difficult! Well, it could be a hot late twenties temp. or a cool 20 degrees. Our summers are changing. Sunshine or rain? I would go for sunshine ---but there may be some rain. Packinng then, I would go for warm, dry days but bring a fleece or something similar.

The taxi fare: well I guess that it could be quite a price. It all depends on the traffic! If you are caught up in a long jam then it could be as much as $100 each way! Unlikely though! Perhaps you should think along the lines of $70 each way. It may be better to use public transport and then use a taxi for the last bit if you need to!

Boats? Try catching a boat along the Thames (pronounced 'tems') to the west ---towards Oxford. Also, there are plenty of water tours of London towards the East.

St.Petes! What a place! I loved it! Never been to Uzebeck ---but I will one day!

Have fun!

If you go to www.tfl.org.uk and click on the Travel Planner, you will be able to plan the public transportation route from Heathrow to South Ken. Or if you type in your address, the travel planner will take you right to the door! A taxi will be extremely expensive.

Yes, I don't think you'll get much change from forty quid. The underground is direct to South Ken. Several boats on the Thames, including the river bus east. Greenwich is a cool place. Check when Tower Bridge opens.

Dont touch the taxi

The Heathrow express is around £28 a day ticket for six zones on the underground around £6

And between the Heathrow Express and the Tube prices, there's Heathrow Connect.

And unless you are bringing more luggage than you can carry (in which case you'll probable be needing not one but two of London's Finest)you'd be barking mad to do the trip by any other way than tube. You don't even have to change trains.

ehehehehe.... I thought, I heard it about Istanbul's weather/ women :))
everywhere the same? :)

PS yes, I am going to have two huge suit cases and adding about 11 hours flight, last thing I want is to use public transportation :) Therefore, I just want to make sure I have enough cast in British currency to pay for the taxi.

Oh well, it's your forty smackers :-). But Heathrow-South Ken is about as easy a public transport connection as you'll get, you will get a seat because the line starts at Heathrow. And if your hotel is not near enough to South Ken station, get a taxi from there.
With luck, you'll save enough for a decent meal!

If you are determined to use a taxi to go from Heathrow to South Ken, then it may well be that you will be able to share a taxi. I assume that you are either going on somewhere or else are going to bujy an awful lot, if you have two huge suitcases for a stay of 5 days!!

:))) I am going to Istnbul after London, travelling in Turkey for another 3 weeks in addition. Thus, bringing 2 big suit cases is justified :)
Thank you very much for your replies

I agree with other suggestions on here , it really is very easy to get there on the tube . taxi will be more then £40 i think . one suggestion for you for your stay in london is visit a boat/bar which is moored opposite the London Eye called the Tattershall Castle , very nice place to spend a warm afternoon/evening . Nearest tube station is Embankment . Hope you have a great trip
