| Wales | Reasonable Accommodation Posted: Thu July 24, 2008 04:55 AM UTC
I need to find "reasonable accommodation" in Wales either August or October 2009. I prefer self-catering in studio. Must be close to National Rail Network and local transport. Can anyone help me?

Please can you be a little more specific. North, or South Wales, CIty, small town or village, coast or mountains? It is not a large country but we have plenty of variety and knowing a bit more about your needs would help.
Cheers from a hot and sunny morning in Wales.

Also, an idea of the date would be helpful, as during August all hotels, guesthouses and rented accommodation (studios/apartments) will still be bookable but by October many smaller hotels etc may be closed for the winter.
No problem in larger towns and cities in October, but small, seaside and rural places are all but shut by the end of September.

As well as the points noted above, your requirement to be near the rail network does rather limit your choice.
http://www.visitwales.com/ is the official tourist info site, which will give you lots of details about accommodation possibilities. 'Studis's are likely to be rare, unless you plan on staing in a really big city such as cardiff. Most of the self-catering accommodation in Wales is in cottages (and flats at some seaside resorts). http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/tocs_maps/maps/ will give you downloadable PDF maps of the rail network, which will give you an idea of where you might base yourself. remember that some of the smaller places will have an infrequent service. www.nationalrail.co.uk will give you times and fares. More detail from you will help us provide more detail in return.

Also, some small, rural railway stations are 'request stop'. In other words, you put your hand out to get the train to stop, a bit like the bus services in rural areas.

Living outside a town like Cardiff does not mean you are cut off from the rest of the World'
I live in a market town north of Cardiff but the train will take me there in 42 minutes; to Manchester in 2 and 3/4 hours; London under 2 and 1/2, changing at Newport. The new Wrexham and Shrewsbury Railway to Marylebone is now providing a frequent service to London for people in North Wales. http://www.wrexhamandshropshire.co.uk/index.php We do have buses as well - free to peple over 60 who have obtained a Passs.

I was born and bred in wild and windy West Wales and there several train stations are request stop.
I think that for the free bus passes one has to live in a particular area to be eligible. A visitor would not qualify.
