Granada Malaga to Granada
Posted: Wed July 23, 2008 08:21 PM UTC
We are flying out to Malaga on the first Friday in October and would like to find out the best way to travel from Malaga to Granada - bus, train or taxi. What are the fares, travel times etc? Which method is most reliable?

Thanks

Actually this is the only time we rented a car while on vacation. We actually rented the car to go from Malaga to Gibraltar, but when we saw the train connections we decided to keep the car and drop it off in Granada.

Nice part is that the airport is south of the city, so you can drop it off before getting into city traffic, then catch a taxi into town ... was not much.

I do not know about buses, perhaps someone else will post. Train connections from Malaga to Granada were awful at the time we went.

As with Nomad7890, we, too, drove a rental car from Malaga to Granada. Checked in the hotel, drove to Alhambra then dropped off the car from there. The drive was pretty easy compared to driving in other European cities. It even rained hard on our way to Granada, but still it was a pretty relaxing drive.

The train connection between Malaga and Granada is and always has been poor. Recent improvements to the railway lines in this part of Spain means that you can now take one of those fast AVE trains from Malaga to Cordoba and then on to Madrid. But the line between Granada and elsewhere has still not been 'up graded'.
For the best way you need to take a bus. The bus station in Malaga is very close to the new and luxurious train station called "Maria Zambrano". Bus times can be found on the Malaga bus station web site:
http://www.estabus.emtsam.es/
or www.alsa.es
or www.movelia.es
You will discover all the timings and prices.

We took the bus from Granada to Malaga. One and a half hours Granada bus station to Malaga Airport. Can't remember the fare but I know seemed reasonable. Taxi would be very expensive for that distance. Are you planning to stay in Granada or just visit for a day?
