Most countries in Western Europe will get a free stamp for 30 days, no hassles.

VISA 101

If you're like me, my first trip I booked was for 35 days. Although you will get a 30 day visa upon arrival, you can go to a neighboring country and upon re-entry into Thailand you will get another 30 day tourist visa. I went to Laos as I was visiting UbonRatchathani in the northeast. Now I'm living in Pattaya and I see visa shops that are a dime-a-dozen offering visa runs to Cambodia. Not sure how long this will continue as Thailand and Cambodia are amidst a territorial conflict over a historic temple.

I have a non-resident Type "O" visa now and I'm required to leave the country every 90 days as opposed to the 30 days with a tourist visa. I usually plan a trip abroad to another country via the plane. I find that by using a plane / customs vs using a border crossing is much simpler and and not too much more expensive. You can book a flight to Singappore, Malaysia, and last year I went to Philippines when the fuel was cheaper. Usually you're required to have an overnight stay but you can get away without an overnight stay by using the visa shops that take you to the nearest border crossing and they've already paid bribe money to avoid the overnight stays.

You're allowed 3 x 30 day tourist visa stamps (stamp upon arrival at airport or border crossing) for every 180 days. If by chance you extend your stay by 1 day or 2 days (31 or 32 days total) without a new stamp, the immigration dept will assess a fine of 500 baht / day. I believe it is 500 baht / day beyond the 30 days you are given but don't quote me on it. You will get pulled off to the side at the airport when you're on your way to your flight. It may take an extra 10 minutes or so. Expect to answer questions. I've seen people that have been pulled over but didn't bother to ask questions as to what happened, however, I've heard bits and pieces, hence the 500 baht fee / day (that was last year)

You can always try and google your local govt embassy or Royal Thai Consulate and look for additional details on visa.
