We're about to embark on the wildness of my brother's wedding weekend. . .first extended family arrives tomorrow. I'm in the bridal party and helping host all the guests. I'm excited for it - the couple couldn't be more perfect for each other - but know that it's going to be a busy, busy weekend.
So, lighten my mood. . .what are your best (and maybe worst) wedding stories? Mishaps? Anyone walk out at the last minute? Any objections to the ceremony? I want to hear it all! (And hope that none of it happens at this one!) |

My husband and I decided to invite the whole town to our wedding.
What started out as a plan to have a small quiet beach wedding turned into a bit of a parade. We wanted to be able to leave our beachfront wedding to go to the reception via horse and carriage ( I lived on the beach, he lived on a horse ranch) but it was not permitted on my island. The local government had passed laws stating that horses were no longer permitted on our small island unless given a day pass to be in a parade. We made a joke to the effect that our wedding should be classified as a town parade. The mayor and town council heard about the comment and agreed. You see I had been a very active volunteer & fundraiser for our small community for over a decade and Dan and I met volunteering our time to set up a parade for the town and the local firehouse. problem#1 No horses allowed solution = have a parade - invite town council and governing bodies problem #2 All parades require police for traffic management solution - invite police to wedding - they gifted and hour for traffic management problem #3 Reception venue fell through solution -Firemen saved the day with the beautiful historic Firehouse -invite all fireman problem #4 Someone complains about town supporting a parade for a private wedding solution -Put an invitation to all residentsfor wedding, parade and reception up in the local Post Office problem #5 In the middle of the reception there is a fire called in. The many firemen attending need to access a side room to change into their gear. solution - have the band start a conga line with Bride and Groom leading the way out of the way. Solution - Keep an open and creative mind, don't sweat the small stuff it as a way of working out and have a great time! |

My brother became very ill the night before his wedding, but refused to call it off. The doctor came to the house in the morning, gave him a massive penicillin injection. He got to the church [RC} where the newly ordained priest decided to make a big thing of his first marriage service [btw my brother not RC, only his wife]. So by time brother reached door of the church with his new bride, he was only fit to be taken home to bed. Bride and guests then whooped it up for the rest of the day.

At my friends' wedding 2 years ago, another friend caught the bouquet and one of our guyfriends caught the garter. When he had to put the garter on her leg in front of everyone, he decided to spice things up - he started unbuttoning his shirt and doing a little stripper dance! Everyone was laughing their heads off.

I have a brother called Stephen.
Some of my family lived over the other side of Birmingham UK in a "Black Country" town called Oldbury which is reached along the Wolverhampton Road. On the morning of my wedding, my WIFE's father got a phone call from "Stephen" saying that their car had broken down on the Wolverhampton Road and could he send a car to pick them up? He agreed but wasn't sure how to get there or how many relatives were coming from there. He rang ME (I was staying with my parents) and obviously I was puzzled - I rang my brother and he was still at home (Not over in Oldbury) and had no problems with his car and had no arrangements to pick up other relatives! Well - what are the chances of getting a WRONG NUMBER, from someone going to THE WEDDING , who was called STEPHEN, and was travelling from the SAME TOWN as my other relatives? I guess they may still be waiting by the side of the road to be picked-up all these years later! This was in the days before mobile phones and Caller ID etc! |

I was the last of my group of friends to settle down and as a result had been in too many weddings... we eloped in Scotland. I knew too much! There's not enough memory in my computer to tell all of the stories, some sad, some bad, some hilarious ~ all true :)
I hope my kids both run away to get married, I'll write them a check! |

Jelw – what a FANTASTIC story! I love every moment and how you described them. It seems like you had the perfect attitude toward the planning and the day. . .
Shane – and I though my uncle fainting at the altar was a good story! How great that his bride continued to the party! Shelley – Way to give this single girl hope! Although, the best man has been my little brother’s friend for years and is too much like a sibling for me to even think of kissing. I’ll just have to keep my eyes open on the dance floor. . . (Oh, and congratulations!) Amelie – What a great response to what can be an awkward moment! John – Such a coincidence! We’ve got guests coming from all over the world – wonder all they’ll all make it. Linda Sue – I agree with you! When my day comes I’m going to elope as well. . .somewhere great, I hope. I’ve been in too many weddings and been to so many that I can’t justify the fuss anymore. A little sad (some of the weddings were great) but mostly a relief. Most of all. . .thanks to all of you for giving me something to smile about tonight! I needed it. . . |
