Plitvicka Jezera National Park Travel Forum

Hi you all! I'm leaving to croatia with interrail pass. I've seen there is a train stop in Plaski, and it seems to be on the road to Plitvice lakes NP. Does anybody know whether it is possible to take a bus from Plaski to the lakes and back? the intention is to take the train again in Plaski to go to Slovenia. If it is not possible, what is the best train station to get off and catch a bus?

Hi Cannot help you with the train station, but do not give up and miss Plitvice Lakes, it is a gem, we had a full day there a few years ago, just fantastic, 16 lakes and 100 waterfalls.

We stopped at Plitvice for 2 nights on a coach trip and then continued onto Slovennia, Bled castle and the lake are excellent, also do not miss the capital city Ljubljana. You should also try to visit the Postojana Caves, 25km of underground caves, there is a mini train that takes you 4km into the caves, photos on my pages.

Looking at a road map of Croatia, Plaski appears to be a small place in the middel of nowhere on a relatively minor road. I don't have any specific information, but I'd be surprised if there are many buses on that road, unless someone who knows the area can come up with more definite information. I'd guess that the closest places with reliable bus connections would be Zagreb or Karlovac (coming from the north) or Zadar (coming from the south - but train services to Zadar itself are slow and infrequent).
