Hello VT Members,

I wish to go visit the beautiful Andorra country with my wife and my three months old son. But in other for us to acquire a transit visa the Spanish embassy in our home country has informed us that we will need an Invitation Certified by Andorra police. How do we acquire one?

Please VT members, could anyone with experience about how to acquire an Invitation or get Police Certification of an Invitation? Kindly assist us with the information or contact? If it will be necessary for us to call certain authourities or personalities, please let us know!

Finally kindly inform us of the best activities for a family like mine to get involve! As well as the best place to hang out! Will we need an interpreter upon arrival since we are English speaking?

Look forward to your kind assistance!!

Coleman Family!!!

Would help to know where you are from. I passed through Andorra in June and as an EU passport holder there was no problem.

Also I am surprised that you are going to stay there, for how long?

The place is rather geared up as a shopping opportunity and although they speak Catalan everything else seems to be understood.

We can help further if you help us.

Naturally EU passport holders have no problem, and for most non-EU nationalities it would only be necessary to obtain a Schengen visa to enter Spain or France, depending on how they intended to reach Andorra, since Andorra does not require visas from any nationality. But this is clearly not a nationality that can obtain one on entry, so what nationality are you, given that the Spanish are insisting on issuing a transit visa and on your having an invitation (which would presumably apply whether you were going to Spain or Andorra)? If you have booked a hotel or are using a travel agency, it should be possible to obtain an invitation through them but it might be easier to do it for Spain rather than Andorra: once you have a visa for Spain (whether transit or tourist), you can visit Andorra without further formalities.

Apart from the visa issue Andorra is a fabulous place for hiking. People go there for shopping but the best thing is the landscape. And if you are really tough you can try to conquer the mountains on bicycle like the Tour de France guys.

We just drove from Spain up to Andorra with no checkpoints and no passport inspection. We are Australian, but as I say, the day we drove in, it would not have mattered what nationality we were as no one in authority was the least bit interested. We just drove in. Maybe we were just lucky. It was in September, 2002. Have things changed since then?

I have a feeling, in this case Andorra is used as a loophole to get a Schengen visa. If so, than this loophole does not work. The other way (get a Schengen visa as a loophole to enter Andorra) does work. Hence the answer: get a multiple-entry Schengen visa, Spanish or French.
