| Costa Rica | 2 weeks in Grecia, CR Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 07:27 PM UTC
I'll be spending 2 weeks in Grecia with a social worker program and have 1 completely open weekend. The excursions they offer don't really appeal to me for a number of reasons, I figured I could find something that would suit me better for just as much or less money.
Any ideas? My Spanish is mediocre (I think I could navigate a possible language barrier), I'm very easy to please and am looking for something along the lines of volcano climbing, ziplining, etc. I checked out this website (http://www.arenalmundoaventura.com/ing/aboutus.html) and it looks great but all of their programs seem to have a 2 person minimum, and I'm by myself. I leave this Saturday. Thanks! |

You will be relatively close to Poas volcano. You don't necessarily have to take a tour. I think you can get there by bus from there. I know you can get there by bus from Alajuela (where the airport is) and Grecia is not too far from Alajuela. In the central valley where you will be you will be close to Doka coffee estate also. You could go to Arenal too for the weekend. There is ziplining and other activities there because this is a very popular destination. You are going to be really close to Sarchi (like 10 minutes. many tourists go there to see local artisan crafts especially the ox carts that they make. If I were you I would check out where you can get by bus from Grecia, which will make things economical. you can visit places without tours. Check out www.thebusschedule.com/cr. This shows schedules for smaller bus lines not just the main ones. You will need this website in a place like Grecia.
There is a day trip tour to a beach destination from San Jose. I am not sure if they would pick you up in Grecia. Even though it is not cheap, I think it would be more worth the money than some trips. They provide breakfast and lunch. they take you to Puntarenas where you board a catamaran past little islands near the Nicoya Penninsula to Tortuga Island. You get to hang out on this unibhabited island, snorkeling, beach time, etc. It is a pretty boat ride there. It is through Calypso tours, which has a web site. I would love to know baout the social work program. I am a social worker too.
