Hi,
Planning to go to New Zealand (South Island) in late Nov (soemtime 21-29 Nov). What is the weather like then? Is it cold? What time does it get dark and what time does it get bright in the morning? In the mist of working out my driving itinerary. Thanks for your help |

If anybody replies with a prediction of the weather on the south island, they are lying. You could get two weeks of good weather, or two weeks of rain every day. That's NZ.

One thing for sure is be prepared. You may get some nice sunny days and you may get some cold and wet days. Ave max for Nov is around 19C and ave min is around 9C. Daylight saving will have started as well so daylight hours will be good (approx 15 hours of daylight)...not sure of exact times.

As everywhere in the world the weather is unpredictable, and in spring (when you arrive) the weather is more unsettled than in autumn. But we have had quite nice Novembers in the past years, with December sometimes being worse. However, it rarely happens that we have a full week of rain in Christchurch at any time of the year. It rains a lot on the West Coast but here in the east it is much drier, so I would not worry too much. You might get chilly days but almost certainly some sunny days. If you have a look at weather statistics you also see that Christchurch has less than half the rain of Auckland, for example.
Sunrise in Chch at the end of Nov is at about 5.45am, sunset at about 8.45pm. So you can plan nice long days. More info about this: http://www.rasnz.org.nz/SRSStimes.htm
