Toronto 3 days in Toronto - places of interest / what to do ?
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 01:34 PM UTC
Hello, we will finish our two week vacation in the US with 3 days/nights in Toronto. What would you recommend doing in Toronto itself, and since we have a car, what would be the places of interest in the vicinity and around the lake ? Thanks for your help.

World Wonder Niagra Falls is excellent to spend for one day. It is around 1 1/2 hours travel from Toronto. We also visited a Lion Safari (http://www.lionsafari.com/location.asp) which is good one to spend time. Toronto has CN Tower, Casa Loma and other local attractions.

A little bit 'off the beaten path' in and around Toronto:
- The Distillery District, Toronto’s first pedestrian only village
- Niagara-on-the Lake
- Thorold, where ships climb the mountain
- Kleinburg, a quaint little town - a stone's throw from Toronto (Kleinburg houses also the famous McMichael Canadian Art Collection)
- Mono Cliffs Provincial Park - nice hiking/walking
- between Toronto and the Niagara area visit a vineyard, for instance Vineland Estate Winery
- Unionville: another quaint little town with 'old world' charm
See for more info about these destinations my Ontario page.

happy travels
Jaap

you can travel east of the city and take a day long thousand island cruises from cities like Kingston.

or you can travel west of the city and visit niagara falls and many other attractions (2 days) like butterfly conservatory, botanical gardens, bird park, marineland, etc.

The Toronto beaches on Lake Ontario are just off Queen street. There are several starting with Ashbridges Bay at Lake Shore & Coxwell. The boardwalk follows this path of beaches along the Lake front. Stop in at Kew Gardens at Queen and Lee Ave. There is food vendors, restaurants etc... and beautiful sandy beaches. This whole area is multicultural and you will see many cultures represented here. I also agree that the Distillary District is well worth a look. These old buildings now house artists shops and studios, bars and restaurants for many prices points. Many outside tables to sit and have a drink or snack and watch the people go by. I don't know if you'll be in Toronto for the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition)usually the last 3 weeks of August. Otherwise there is Wonderland - a huge theme park with rides etc..
Enjoy,
Jandar
