Hi people,

So, I was one of the unfortunate souls who booked train to Milan for the weekend of Aug 15 just to find out later that it will be a ghost town during that particular time period :(:(

The primary reason for the visit was to shop...I still find it hard to believe that Milan-the fashion center of europe etc. will be all closed down...so, my question to the locals and those who been there during mid-August, is that really true?

(please tell me otherwise :(

Hello Sam,

I am very sorry for you, but you should know that in August all Italy is on vacations.. so in the big cities you mostly find tourists and locals try to go with families somewhere to the islands, to the sea.. Milan and Rome are ideal for shopping, however August is not the right month I guess. However, you could still go to the outlets just out of Milan that they sell fashionable clothes, have you checked if they were opened? I remember, when living in Rome, I used to shop in some of outlets in industrial part of Rome where they are situated.

yes, I admit, it was a bit of ignorant on my part to not research the dates before booking the trip.

I will now try to book trip 2 for the last weekend of August, hopefully the situation will be a bit better with the holiday-makers getting back to work.

Perhaps I will find the new collection in the stores then? :D

Hi Sam,
I'm sorry to confirm you that the central week of August is not the best time to visit Milan, in particular if your aim is shopping!
In the last years the situation is changed and some shops (and also restaurant) will be open also in this period(ie La Rinascente) but most of them will close at least the central week - August 11-17.
If you will come to Milan at the end of August, I think that starting from August 25 everything will slowly became as usual.
The new collection is already available... in particular in the most famous and branded shops.Ciao
