| Czech Republic | Czech rules on entering country without date of departure Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 10:41 PM UTC
I am on the verge of purchasing a one-way ticket into the UK from san francisco for a trip to Prague this fall. Although I am planning on being in Czech Republic for quite a period of time (months if not longer, I am taking a class), I am wanting to hit a few stops before-hand (hence I will be taking the TRAIN in to the country. BUT, I just spoke to a friend who thought there was some kind of need for a return plain/or train ticket back OUT of the country before you are allowed in. Whew, basically my question is this: is that *** or not?!?!?!?!?! I want to get this cheap airfare as soon as possible, so any help will be appreciated!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

The question may not be about a return ticket, but about a Visa if you plan to be there more than 3 months. You say you are flying from San Franciso, but you don't say where you hold passport. It could make a difference? Why the secret where you are from? If you want complete answers you need to provide the Info. If you do have to get Visa, you may not have to have return ticket?/

The immigration officers in the UK most probably want to see a return ticket or another proof of your intentions to leave the country again. I'm not sure how long you are allowed to stay there - IN CASE you hold a US passport - and I agree, why don't you tell us?
Czech Republic: IN CASE you hold a US passport you can stay there as part of all of the Schengen countries for 90 days without a visa. If you want to take a class you need a students visa. If you want to stay longer than the 90 days, again, you need a visa. Coming from the UK by train, your first entry into Schengen will be France and your 90 days start there. Without a return ticket out of Schengen you may well run into problems.

You need to get this sorted out by contacting the appropriate embassies: it's not something which friends or even an excellent forum like VT can solve for you.
Everything depends upon what citizenship you hold. This website will tell you whether you need a visa to enter the UK (assuming you have a US passport): http://www.britainusa.com/visas/showcats.asp?i=650 You may also need documentation such as proof of funds, return ticket etc. UK immigration officers can take decisions at the point of entry, so do make sure you get the right type of visa (if you need one) and have all the relevant documents to hand when you arrive at the airport. You will also need a Schengen visa to visit the Schengen countries (CR being one). If you intend to be a student in CR then you need the appropriate documentation/visa. Surely whichever institution you intend to study at has provided you with some guidance?
