I am staying in the Algarve in September. I would like to visit Lisbon but I only want to drive as far as the outskirts of Lisbon (perhaps 30 minutes or so away) and then get either a train or bus into the city. Can you suggest a suitable place to drive to where we can get a suitable connection into the city please? Somewhere just off a main road would be good. It would be good if we could see a bit of the countryside too.

This is the link of the portuguese railway network (www.cp.pt), then, you can choose the urbanos Lisboa (http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=3836

Hi!
I'd recommend you go to Fogueteiro and leave the car in the station, that's just on the side of the highway, near the Rio Sul Shopping. Then take the train (Fertagus) to Lisboa. To see the timetables: www.fertagus.pt (only in portuguese) Greetings, Helio

I understand your purpose but coming from Algarve, it is not too easy because the entrance to Lisbon is trough the 25 Abril Bridge. So for you to do you what you´re saing you must leave your car before de Tejo River.. From there you can go by train (company name - Fertagus). If I where you I would stop my car on the other side of the city outskirts in Sintra. (coming from algarve and after passing trough 25 Abril Bridge, you have signs telling tou how to get there. Its about 20Km). From Sintra tou have train to Lisbon city center. Besides, you will reach your purpose and also you will get to see a great place to visit.Sintra is a very known village.
Regards and enjoy.

Why don't you take the train from faro? Fast and hassle free.
If you bring the car I would bring it all the way to lisbon and park it there. There are plenty of shopping centres and underground parking. Commuting back and forth to the car on the other side of the river might be a pain.
