| Gibraltar | Cruise Passengers Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 05:03 PM UTC
When arriving in Gibraltar from a cruise ship, is it possible to arrange a taxi or minibus tour of the rock, I am aware that tours arranged by the ship are expensive and know that local firms will be cheaper. But do they pick up people from the dock? Does anyone have a rough idea of cost, thinking of general tourist things, i.e. seeing the monkeys, cavs etc.., It will be for a party of 4 adults and 1 child

Tours of the Rock are easy to find because most of the traditional taxi drivers offer them. Most taxis are people carriers so can easily take 5 passengers in comfort. The basic Rock Tour takes in the Apes Den, St Michaels cave, the Great Siege Tunnels and the Moorish castle and will last around 90 minutes. I can’t remember the actual cost but recall thinking it was expensive but that was because I was on my own. They charge per car not per person so with 5 of you it should work out a reasonable cost.
If you want something different or longer than the basic tour or want to spend more time somewhere specific just tell the driver what you want and they’ll give you a price. The taxi drivers are all knowledgeable about Gibraltar so also act as a tour guide. If you want to do it independently you can get a taxi to the top end of Main St. where the cable car is and take a ride on that. Half way up you can get off and see the Apes Den then continue on to the top for some great views, there’s also a refreshment and souvenir shop up there. The main photo on my Gibraltar page was taken from the Top of the Rock’ http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/a694d/4c0/ Have a good trip. Clive

You would be able to get a Taxi tour from just outside the cruise terminal. I don't think that you will be able to get a bus tour as I think that they are all booked before hand. Will try to find out how much a tour is, will let you know.
