| Los Angeles | Visiting LA and stay at the Westin Bonaventure Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 02:27 PM UTC
Hi, I will be visiting LA soon and was wondering if it is easy to get around if I stayed at the Westin Bonaventure. I enjoy shopping so is it easy to get to a Factory Outlet? I am not driving so what are the options. How do I get to Venice Beach? Thanks.

Hello
How to get to Venice Beach from your Hotel? Walk to PERSHING SQUARE STATION 10 mins walk time Take METRO BUS 33 to Venice Beach Approx 60mins at $1.25 http://www.metro.net For Premium Full Day Shopping I’d recommend Camarillo Premium Outlets http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=20 Take taxi from hotel to Los Angeles Amtrak Station N Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012 (Union Station). 10 mins drive Your train journey from Union STN to Camarillo 1 hour 40 mins Depart Union STN approx 07:30 (From train STN, take taxi to Camarillo Premium Outlets) Return Camarillo STN approx 19:00 Approx fare $36.00pp http://www.amtrak.com/ Best wishes

I recommend that you reconsider driving, if at all possible. LA is built for cars; the public transportation here is slow and inadequate. You can waste a lot of time waiting for a bus that connects irregularly with another bus that takes you not quite where you want to be.

The Westin Bonaventure is in the heart of downtown LA. It's more for business people who need to be there rather than tourists. It's probably a wonderful hotel, though. For shopaholics, I would stay in Pasadena, Santa Monica or Glendale. The Camarillo Premium Outlet is pretty nice but far. The Citadel is much smaller but closer. Outlet stores here in SoCal are not always the way you get great prices. Some of the regular department stores have some deals, too.

If you're staying Downtown, you should walk or bus it to the Fashion District and Santee Alley. Most of the shops are cheap knockoffs, but some of the stores are now legit and you can get labels for a fraction of what you'd pay in Beverly Hills, or on Melrose.
Probably a 30 minute walk from the Bonaventure. See my shopping tips for the cross streets. GC
