This may seem like a funny question, but where can you find clean toilets / bathrooms near the tourist places in Paris?

I normally go for 4/5 star hotels or MacDonalds. In addition the Picasso museum, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay etc all have good pit stops

There are no tourist places in Paris, so there are no toilets nor bathrooms at all in Paris :-)

There are self-cleaning pay toilets all over the place. They look like space pods and I always feel a bit embarrassed to be seen entering one, but they do swab themselves down after each customer.

I just walk in to any cafe and I ask for the "toilettes". I don't order anything and I've never been stopped.

Some McDonalds in tourist areas are now insiting that you buy something - they then give you a code for the toilet - the one in Calais does this as does the one in Lugano.

You can try Starbucks if they haven't all closed in Paris. The public libraries, department stores, and Quick are also a possibility. Many of the tourist sites also have toilets which are often attended and some do charge, but they are usually quite clean.

I was in Paris last week for two weeks and toilet in Paris is a big problem.
Forget about finding a public toilet, you will be luckly to find one and to notice that it is out of service. You will have to buy a coffe in a cafe nearby and use their toilets.

FYI, there are 420 public toilets in Paris (free)plus all the main tourist sites have them, Eiffel tower-Trocadero-Notre Dame etc, without the Mc-Do's, Quick burger's: even the American Express offices in rue Scribe has free ones.As everyone knows if you're really desperate , a quick dash into a café is at almost every corner, admittedly you may have to buy a coffee if the barman has spotted you, but women generally get out of this situation very well.

Where is that toilet at Amex Rue Scribe. Up until June, I went there once a month to cash a check to pay my rent and wasn't aware they had a toilet so always had to go over to Gallerie Lafayette Maison to use theirs. Nice to know that there is one right there.

Sorry Francesca, never used it myself, but a Cambodian/French friend who has regular dealings with Amex told me about this one.
