I would like you to tell me restaurants in Mexico city where we can eat good, safe food and with moderate prices.-Also in a safe zone by day and by night.
Me gustaría que me dijeran restaurantes en Ciudad de México donde se pueda comer buena y segura comida, con precios moderados.-También que estén en zonas seguras tanto de día como de noche. |

If you're after Mexican food, try out the Focolare -- it's on 87 Hamburg St. in the Zona Rosa. In the evening they have a cultural show where Mexican dances are performed and accompanied by a mariachi band.

The question is not just where, but also when. There is no shortage of places to eat with good food and moderate prices. If you have never been to Mexico City before you are in for a treat as even the most humble taco stand is likely to serve you a taste explosion.
If you are looking for a breakfast or brunch, I would suggest the historic Casa de Azulejos (House of Tiles) where you will find a Sanbornes. This is right in the center of the city near the Palacio de Bellas Artes. You will recognize the building by the tile exterior. It is not the cheapest Mexican food, but it still maintains authentic taste because of the high percentage of Mexicans among the clients. It seems every visit I have made to Mexico City since 1961 has included a meal at the House of Tiles. Myself and my guests have never been disappointed. For a comida (main meal in the afternoon), make sure that you go to eat at the right time. Even 1 PM may be a little early and certainly 5-6 would be too late. (Note: 4-7 would also be too early for traditional Mexican supper(la cena).) I would suggest "El Fondo de los Recuerdos". Although a large place and seemingly fairly well known among Mexicans, this is not likely to be featured as is the Casa de los Azulejos in every guide book or web page. It is not far from the monument to the 5 children heroes at the edge of Chapultepec. I found it easiest to just get into a taxi to get to the place. Although Sunday afternoon and perhaps Saturday afternoon are likely to be the busiest days, we were there on Monday and had a great time. Great food, great music, great atmosphere with a true Mexican feel. We were the only obvious non-Mexican tourists in the place. I would consider the prices moderate and certainly good price for the value. The memories were priceless.

Stamporama is right, he gave you a very good tip (HEY BOB!!! *wave*). I went there with him and I liked the place and would recommend it too. Besides it's located in a lively area where you will see a lot of people around even till the wee hours.
Another "safe" area is Polanco, you can find a few recommendations in my Mex City page but my favorite is called VILLA MARIA, it's also mexican food although it's also tourist-oriented. For a more local experience (during day time) there's this place called LOS PANCHOS which is just a few blocks away from this area, next to the Camino Real hotel, and which is attended 99% by locals. Remember that any area can be safe or not depending also on what kind of transportation you use, the time of the day you go there, whether you're careful and not carry with you and show off any expensive or important items, etc. There are also a few recommendations in downtown but I wouldn't go there during the night, only during the day / early evening, and since I don't know where you'll be staying it's hard to give other options which are adequate for you. good luck.
