| Frankfurt am Main | What to do with a Five hour stopper in Frankfurt Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 05:13 PM UTC
Hi all,
We will be flying through Frankfurt airport and will have a five hour stop-over. I was wondering if this would give us enough time to do anything outside of the airport? (for exemple, go downtown for a walk and lunch) Is the train into the center and back to the airport fairly reliable and frequent? How long is the ride? In general I'd like to get an idea if this is feasible or risky? |

Hello,
there are trains from Frankfurt airport (the station is right in front of the main airport building) to Frankfurt main station every 15 minutes and the ride only takes 11 minutes. For detailed info: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en So I guess there is a pretty good connection... if one of the trains really should get cancelled you'd only have to wait 15 minutes for the next one. Cheers, Elena

To get to the city centre you will most likely take the S-Bahn which is the local train system. Lines S8 and S9 (directions Hauptbahnhof, Offenbach or Hanau) take you to the centre. Get off at the station Hauptwache or Konstablerwache, and you are right there.
Those local trains mostly take 15 minutes for the ride. The longest wait you should have during the week is 17 min, sometimes only 2 min between the trains. You get tickets at vending machines. You can check timetables from the airport on this website: http://www.rmv.de/auskunft/bin/jp/query.exe/dn?L=v
