Punta Del Este

It seems that I'm only reading about Montevideo. Have you spent any time in Punta Del Este? I'll be there for 5 full days. Any suggestions on day trips, flea markets, etc?

Hi,

Before giving any suggestions it's important to know when are you going to PDE, because is a resort and the main attraction are beaches. Anyway the scenery is fantastic, specially Punta Ballena, Casapueblo, Barra de Maldonado, Jose Ignacio and Punta del Este itself.
From july to october you can enjoy watching whales very close to the beach. There are also boat tours to see them even closer.
There's an arts and crafts market in Plaza Artigas, in Punta del Este downtown.

Like it was said, Punta Ballena as well as Barra de Maldonado, are quite cool. Before Punta del Este, I got to stay in the Garden House Hostel in Buenos Aires and they gave me this book called free rider and thanks to that I stayed in this other Hostel, just half a block away from the beach! Don't miss the whales... and your camera!

This is wonderful, thank you. I will be in Buenos Aires, before Uruguay, as well. Any tips, for BA and how to get to PdE, from there? I've been reading about the short ferry to long bus or long ferry to short bus- i just haven't figured it out yet!
