| Uruguay | I'd like to spend enough time in Uruguay.............. Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 11:37 AM UTC
Hello everyone:
to visit the "whole country",after arriving in Montevideo take a bus to Colonia and then N,E and South back again to Montevideo.Has anyone done this trip?Is it feasible?I'm planning to travel with a backpack but stay in hostels or modest pensiones.I'd love to hear from fellow travelers and their input.Planning to do it after the high season(there). Are things expensive there? I know that the standard of living is a bit higher than Argentina, how much so? Looking forward to your helpful replies, many thanks in advance.calabro41. |

Hi,
To the question "is it feasible" the answer is YES. There are bus services from Colonia to the north, going along Mercedes and then Paysandu, Salto, etc. People is very friendly and you won't have any trouble, specially if you can manage at least a bit in spanish because you are heading to areas not used to tourists except argentines. Going out of Montevideo and Punta del Este things tend to be cheaper and it isn't much more expensive than Argentina. Regards, Rafa

Hola Calabro,
I did the same trip earlier this year, and had a great time. Uruguay is a beautiful country. Hotels and food are a little more economical than in Argentina, with many choices available. (Check out local markets for fresh fruit, etc.) Information from the web is sometimes a little hard to find, but keep looking. For bus travel, check out the following: agenciacentral.com.uy and egakeguay.com. Enjoy your trip. JAC
