Hello..
I would say Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan is the best option available if you want to go to a beach resort close to Kuala Lumpur. It will take approximately 1 1/2 hour driving from Kuala Lumpur City Centre to Port Dickson. Among the best resorts are Avillion Port Dickson, Guoman Resort Port Dickson and Legend Water Chalet Port Dickson. Hope the info will help you a bit. If you need more info, don't hesitate to email me. Best regards, Zul Kuala lumpur, MALAYSIA

If your intention is mainly to see the sights and sounds in KL, it's too far to stay in a beachside resort. KL is not close to the beach, about 1.5 to 2 hours drive. Now with fuel prices so high... I wouldn't recommend it, furthermore you have a baby, so travelling everyday will be a hassle.
Furthermore, the beaches close to KL ie. Port Dickson, Klang are not beautiful. They are polluted and contaminated because the Straits of Malacca is a busy waterway. Nice beaches in Malaysia are around the islands on the East side of Malaysia ie. Pulau Tioman, Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian to name a few. If you wish to tour KL and you don't want to stay in the city, you could stay in Sunway Resort and Spa which is about half hour drive to KL city but it's very close to a themepark and a great shoppping mall! Alternatively you could stay in Crown Mutiara in KL which is VERY close to the monorail station.
