Hi everyone,
I have a few questions since I have never been to Laos. How does one get from Luang Prabang airport to the hotels in town. Is there an airport shuttle service? As for money, are credit cards widedly accepted? If not, are ATM machines available? Or is using U.S. dollars easier? |

There are taxi's and a bus from the airport - cheap and easy to get. Credit cards are not widely used - there are a couple of ATM machines but it is best to take $. I loved LuangPrababng, have a great time

There are plenty of drivers outide the airport it is pretty cheap. I would take US$(as we did) easy to change and hotels etc will accept them. I think if you stay in the more upmarket spots they will take credit cards but not the small locally run places.

Hi!
Check this website: http://bcellaos.com/ for official exchange rates and ATM locations in LPB. I don't think using ATM is the best way for getting Lao cash because you can withdraw only 700 000 KIP at once; so if you need more money you will have to withdraw many times (you're allowed to withdraw 8 times in one day). This year only BCEL's ATM had alowed foreign cards. Better still is to go with your CC to the bank and take more money there. Or change dollars into KIP. Hope that helps... have a great time in Laos (I can't wait to go back).

US$ are more accepted than even Lao Kip, there are only 2 ATM machines at the main road but one of them stay off during the weekend and turned off at 17.00.. Credit cards are not widely accepted... tuktuk would be available from airport to the centre of town and highly negotiable... there is no shuttle as i think i have not seen any other mode of public transport instead of tuktuk... Luang Prabang is very small town, it just looks big on the tourist map of Laos.. oh and there is a huge bargaining for hotels... Luang Prabang's accommodation is cheaper comparing to the region but resturants etc. are very expensive...
