My wife and I will be spending our first day in London on my birthday which is on a Sunday night. I'm looking for suggestions for a place in the 50 to 60 pound per person range. We are staying right near the Holborn tube. Any restaurants with a birthday deal (free wine with dinner or better yet a free dinner on your birthday). I am open to any type of menu.

I'm going to be in London for my birthday too :-) Actually 1/2 in Paris and 1/2 in Paris....

I'm afraid that I never spend that much in London on food but you might also have a look at sue_stone's London page, she has some excellent restaurant reviews (although a lot of them are not central).

You might look at the website for Covent Garden Life - sorry, I don't know it off-hand but Google should come up trumps. The resaurant section is comprehensive and has all sorts of deals, etc. One hurdle will be that a lot of restaurants are not open on Sunday.......

a free dinner is not going to happen, and free wine is unlikely unless its a smaller restaurant (i.e. not a chain) and you are a regular visitor.

joe allen is nice too - will be quieter - has a laid back NY bisrtro feel and often has a live jazz pianist

there's place called patara on greek st in soho which is excellent thai food and again is in your price range - sorry can't find a link but it will be on toptable.co.uk

toptable will have a list of special deals for your area also, in fact you may find your free bottle of wine there.

I noticed that a lot of restaurants have "deals" that you can access on line e.g. free bottle of wine and so on. However, look at the vouchers to see when they expire. As suggested, look through top table and convent garden life. As your birthday is on a Sunday, finding a nice place that's open will be the first thing you should concentrate on, and then look for deals.

Toptable is the best website to look up for specials. You might luck out on Sunday nights too - often there are deals going on. Holborn isn't the greatest of areas for restaurants though, especially considering it's towards the business district. You will need to head West End-ish.
