| Paris | PARIS - trains and tickets to Versailles Posted: Thu July 17, 2008 04:45 PM UTC
Please help me - I am going to Paris in Saturday, and i would buy a day ticket to Versailles in advance to avoid long queues in front of the palace. I have heard that the tickets (which are combined with a train ticket) can be bought in FNAC shops or train station, but we come there on the saturday night, and on sunday morning we want to go to Versailles. So i would like to know:
1) are the Le Passeport one-day tickets sold in RER stations same as tickets from Transilien SNCF ? What is the differences between RER and SNCF trains? Have they different stations and lines, can I use same train tickets on both? 2) in which station can I buy the Versailles tickets? What are the opening hours of the officies in stations, where are tickets sold? Thanks for every information. |

Don't know how late you are arriving Saturday but the FNAC store on the Champs-Elysées is open daily noon to midnight so you might get your ticket there.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but Metro is local Paris; RER is suburbs and by default, local since you may start in town; SNCF is the train outside Paris. When we've gone to Versailles, we've taken the RER C-5 to the Rive Gauche station in Versailles. There is another station in Versailles but it's a bit farther out. The Rive Gauche station is a short walk from the chateau. We've gotten the Paris Museum Pass at the Cluny since there's no line there and simply bought an RER ticket to take the train out to Versailles. Hope this is some help. Enjoy your trip.

Hi We visited Versailles on Saturday 26th May, 2007, caught the train which took approx 30 minutes from the Latin Quarter, get the RER line C and alight at station Versailles-Rive Gauche, the Palace is less than a 10 minute walk from the station, just follow the crowds.
You can purchase you ticket after you get off the train, as you leave the station you will see notice boards directing you to a shop around the corner. We purchased Adult entry Euro 25, however we did not purchase the gardens entry which I recommend you do at the time. The entry ticket included a guided tour of the Palace, we had a good English speaking guide. The tour took approx 90 minutes we then had to line up to purchase tickets for the gardens Euro 7.5 each. The gardens are magnificent and are a must see. Check out my photos of Versailles, Good Luck, Mike

Thank you for your information.
Can I use SNCF ticket (which include ticket to Versailles) to the RER trains (RER C going to Rive Gauche)?
