| Canada | Best route through Montreal QC with a tall fifth wheel trailer going east... Posted: Thu July 17, 2008 12:07 AM UTC
Hi,
I am looking for the best possible route through Montreal with a tall fifth wheel. The trailer is 13 feet 6 inches tall and the length of the truck and trailer together is 54 feet long. Coming from Ottawa and going to Nova Scotia. Any help would be greatly appreciated.! Thanks Kobi |

As far as I know there is only one way to go through Montreal from West to East and that is by following the trans-Canada highway (it changes its name through the city) which goes through the city.

The best way is to by-pass the Montreal area by using the 640 or the 440.
From Ottawa, take the 416 which will merge into the 40 east near Montreal. Drive a few kms and look for signs for the 13 North. Take the 13 North and it will take you straight to the 640 or the 440. Follow the 640 all the way until it merges wih the 40 and you will be in the Repentigny area and will have bypassed Montreal. If you take the 440, just make sure you merge back into the 640. Here is a little map of the area. If you play a bit with the + and - you will see exactly what I mean: http://www.biz-stay.com/mapview.cfm?page=city&cityid=537 At the end of the 640, take the 40 all the way to Quebec City and once there, take 540 (autoroute Duplessis) which will take you to 20 east on your way to Nova Scotia. Finally, it would be wise to avoid travelling through Montreal during rush hour (7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm). Have a great trip.
