| Washington D.C. | Need Advice for Restaurants and sights Posted: Wed July 16, 2008 01:58 PM UTC
Hello everyone and thanks in advance!!
I will be coming to DC the last weekend of July. This will be a trip with girlfriend and need some advice on what to do. She used to work in DC as intern about 15 years ago, but I have only been up there once. We are staying at Hotel Monaco, near the White House and will probably be doing the normal sights. However if there are any 'must see' sights please let me know. I have read about a Segway tour online. Is that any good? Also, I need some info on places to dine. Looking for something for Friday or Sat night. Not too dressy or fancy, but nice place. Probably Italian or Continental fare. (crab cakes are the most seafood she does) If anyone has recommendations please let me know. Also if they need reservations please let me know that also. One more thing. We are planning on seeing Shear Madness, but want recommendations on that also. Thanks again for your assistance. |

If it has been 15 years, then you must definitely check out one of the new Smithsonian Museums that has been added such as the Native American Museum as well as the others. Also check out the Newseum. It's not free (about $20) but well worth it. The Segway tour is the same as the walking tour would be...just using a Segway...saves you feet if you don't like walking. My favorite restaurant in DC just happens to be close to where you are staying. It is called Georgia Brown's. The food is awesome (try the pork chops), but it may be a little pricey. Their Sunday brunch is great and has live jazz. Reservations are recommended. Here is their website. I guess I should add it to my tips after this. I know nothing about Shear Madness....sorry.

I ate at Sequoia the last time I was in DC. There's a view of the Kennedy Center and the Potomac River. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great food!

We are going to D.C. in early August specifically to see the Afghaniston: Hidden Treasures Exhibition at the National Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian. This exhibit has 230 pieces that were hidden 25 years ago and survived the Soviet invasion, the Taliban and the U.S. campaign. Might be interesting to you and the price is $0.00 to see it. Sounded like a bargain to us.

Go to the Woodley Park area- have a lot of great restaurants there.
http://www.dcnet.com/woodley/restaur.htm I ate at the Lebanese Taverna- the food was amazing and great atmosphere. Moderately priced. Another ate at the mediterranean place there and he equally loved it.
