Hi,

I have booked a weekend to barcelona in august and have just read online that Girona airport is 1hr 20mins from city. My flight gets in late on a friday night so would it be better for me to rent a car? Does anyone know any car rental compnaies at that airport?

if you are flying Ryanair there should be a bus timed around the scheduled flight arrival time ( accessible on ryanair website )

takes you to bus sation nord in Barcelona from there you can access a taxi to your hotel or maybe a late bus - depending on where you are staying

if you give details maybe one of the local Vters can sort a cheap alternative on the bus schedule s

The bus company is Barcelona Bus and you can find their website http://www.sagales.com/ I used them when I flew there and it was a perfect service!

I think that both Hertz and Eurocar has offices at the airport.

taxi is not expensive, 1 eu/km
if your hotel is near metro stop - on Friday/ Sat. night Metro works til 2 am.

As for car - parking place will be an issue ...

I'd not really advice to drive to Barcelona, is not difficult except when you arrive to the city. But once in Barcelona a car is a nuisance more than an advantage, and you can't park for free anywhere in the city centre

as others said, the buses are very convenient and cheap (21 € return). Getting a taxi if you arrive past midnight a Barcelona may take a while (speaking by own experience!) but going to anywhere in the city centre shoudl not cost you more than 10-15€. The buses are from an independent company (www.sagales.com, as said above). So, you can use them arriving with any airline (or even if you did not arrived by plane)

A piece of advice, when you return to GRO, take the bus PRIOR to the one scheduled for your flight. Check in queues at GRO are horrendous, so better to be already there when they open the counters
