I am contemplating booking this hotel for a week in early September. Is it within walking distance of the "strip?" If not, is it easy to get a cab from the hotel to the "strip" and return?

It's about a mile from there to the bottom end of 'the strip' with a couple of small hills involved.

In September you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a taxi if you need one.
