Málaga Travelling From Malaga to Seville on the Train using a Mobility Scooter
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 09:48 PM UTC
Hi

My plan is to stay in Malaga for a few days, rent a mobility scooter, take the train to Seville with the scooter, stay there for 3 days and come back again.

Does anyone know if the regional trains from Malaga to Seville are accessible for mobility scooters? Do I need to book/notify the train company in advance?

Thanks

I don't think they are, since wheelchairs have to be folded unless the user is sitting in it, in which case it cannot exceed the dimensions: width 700 mm, depth 1.300 mm, height 1.400 mm (http://www.renfe.es/gsf/guia.html#punto6) for travel in one of the places reserved for reduced-mobility travellers, called "plaza H".
I would suggest you go down to the station in person (or to a travel agent), with the mobility scooter, at least the day before you need the ticket, to see what is possible. After that, if you need assistance to board the train you have to phone (902 24 05 05) at least 30 minutes before the departure of the train in question.

There is a special wagon in the high speed train, AVE (www.renfe.es), that has space for wheelchairs. You basically attach the chair to the floor, so it does not move, and don´t need a seat. By this I mean there must be space enough to "park" a Mobility scooter.
Check in the Renfe website, if not, they have a phone in the web where you can call and find out.
Hope this helps!
