| Key West | Two more Scottish Tourist Heading to Key West Can you Advise! X Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 10:45 PM UTC
Hello Folks, My fiancée and I would like any information that you may have to offer us. We are staying for a week in Orlando then heading to key west for a further two weeks, we arrive in Key West on the 12th January 2009.
Please could you advise us on what's not to be missed, The must do's & dont's. We love to meet people and generally have a great outlook on life. We are looking for a hotel with a great reputation, and good location. If you know of any experiences that should not be missed please do say, we don't mind what we pay as long as it's something that you would never forget. Would you let us know about and fabulous seafood restaurants also any fun and exciting friendly Bars. Basically any thing that you think we should know and even things to avoid. Thank you and have a great day. Tracey & Craig from Bonnie Scotland.x |

The highlight of Key West was surprising, it was an old shack/pier called Robbies in Islamorada, Florida. You buy sardines for a cheap price and go out onto the deck and feed GIANT tarpon fish. They actually jump out of the water and take it from your hand. It's actually quite scary because there mouth are big enough to go around your entire fist, but definetly a unique experience.
http://www.robbies.com/default.htm I'd recommend staying at The Gardens Hotel. It is everything you would think Key West would be. Very laid-back! It fills up fast, so definetly reserve ahead of time. 2 Two weeks in Key West I think is too long and quite honest, unaffordable lol! Why not spend a week in Miami Beach (South Beach)? Key West isn't known for beaches, that way you will get to experience everything Florida has to offer. Some recommendations would be to rent waverunners, go on a fishing charter, and check out Duval Street. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Key West is the perfect place to chill out (or warm up in your case), but still 2 weeks is a bit much in one place. Downtown Key West is full of touristy things to do - bars, shops, etc. - fun and exciting.
"Garden House" hotel was recommended to me but I could not get a room the day I was there . Hopefully you will rent a car and visit the rest of the keys and Miami, South Beach, etc. Boating, fishing , snorkelling , kayaking, camping, swimming are very popular. There are also state parks, nature preserves, wildlife sanctuaries and the Everglades. Do sample my favorite authentic key lime pie - yummmmeee( visit the grocery supermarket Publix if you cannot locate a bakery). (Email me if you would like me to mail you a brochure from Key West)

Consider stopping at the Everglades on your way. I don't think there's anything like it in Scotland. It will be a little hot and buggy in September, but still pretty amazing.
I like the Southernmost Hotel on the Beach in Key West. They're right next door to a nice swimming beach and they have a gorgeous swimming pool. It's convenient to Duval without being in the thick of things. The Dry Tortugas are worth a trip. Before you go read "Flashback" by Nevada Barr. For restaurants, I liked El Siboney (cuban), Turtle Kraals and Conch Republic for seafood Have a lovely time
