Glasgow Glasgow to Edinburgh?

What is the best way to get from Glasgow to Edinburgh via public transport?
Are there any sights on the track, which would be worth to be visited or even to make a detour?

Hi there, it is quite a short journey and train is a viable option if you are not driving. There are many each hour going between the two cities.

trains every 15 minutes during the day - journey time about 50 minutes

frequent express buses - probably cheaper, but a bit slower

Linlithgow is worth stopping at, for the Palace.

CityLink Buses go every 20 minutes from the Buchanan Street Bus Station - fares can be as low as £1 if booked on line, up to £4 one way (I think) slightly less than double for a return fare. You can travel on any bus, except with the £1 fares you must take a specified bus. Journey takes from 45 minutes to 50 minutes in rush hour.
There's another bus line that goes from the bus station - red buses but the name escapes me - the journey takes longer and the fare is about £2.
Trains leave every 15 minutes from Queen Street Station. Cost, last time I looked, was £11+ for a day return (and you cannot travel on a train between 16.30 and 18.00 or before 9.30))
If you wanted to go to Linlithgow, then you would have to take another bus to Linlithgow, as the Glasgow-Edinburgh bus does not go via Linlithgow but goes on the motorway the whole way.
The buses terminate at the bus station which is just slightly off Princes Street. However, there are stops at Haymarket Station, Shandwick Place, and if you ask, the driver will also stop at Waverley Steps, which is right at Waverley Station.
The train stops at Haymarket Station and then Waverley.

I'd advise on taking the train for speed alone as many streets in Edinburgh (notably Shandwick Place) are shut due to tram works which are affecting bus routes/times.

For train get off at Waverley and for times see;

For buses there are two choices;
