| Istria | recommendations in Istria Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 05:51 PM UTC
My travel plans just changed. And now I find that I'd like to spend 6 days in Istria Peninsula. I won't be renting a car and need to get from Zagreb to Istria. Does anyone have suggestions as to what cities/villages I should visit in Istria using a bus as transport? And then after Istria, which village will be the easier so I can get to Zadar? (I heard there is a ferry there from somewhere in Istria but not sure.) many thanks

You could visit Porec and Pula.

Rovinj also has good bus links in addition to the places mentioned in the previous answer.
You can easily get to Zadar by bus from any reasonably-sized town in Istria, most likely by first taking a bus to Rijeka and changing there to a bus down the coast to Zadar. I'm not sure about ferries.

I like Rijeka for the excellent bus links but i would stay in one of the pretty villages nearby instead of the city. You can also get to Zadar without much fuss from there.

There are several buses every day to Krk Island from Rijeka.

To connect easily with the bus i would stay in Volosko, a 5 minute ride on #32 bus to the main bus depot in Opatija. This is an old fishing village with a picturesque harbour and has a few great restaurants as well. Another quaint village to consider is Lovran but it is a little further from the centre.
