| Panama | Thinking about Bocas del Toro for 6 weeks Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 06:42 AM UTC
I'm planning a 4 month journey through South America but want to touch up on my Spanish a bit before. I found lots of Spanish schools in Costa Rica but the one that interests me most is in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Does anyone have any advice about these Spanish schools in CR and Panama, or any others? Anyone know if Bocas del Toro would be a cool place to hang out for a month and a half (Nov-Dec)? I'm not looking for a place with tons of amenities, just a place with friendly people. Thanks.

Bocas is a really cool place to hang out. Very laid back. Great food, great people. Rooms from $20 hostel to $200+. It can rain a lot in November. I was there in December 2006 and it only rained once. January/February 2008 there were a few good rains but a lot of nice weather. I don't think the weather patterns are as predictable as they once were.
Check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/panbocas/ and do a search for Spanish by the Sea for some reviews. In Boquete there is a school called Hable Ya Language Center. I've read some good reviews. http://hablayapanama.com/ Boquete is in the mountains and has cooler weather. Bocas is tropical, hot humid with an ocean breeze. I prefer Bocas. Enjoy
