Honolulu Restaurant for Anniversary
Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 11:54 AM UTC
Hi, My wife and I are having a three week holiday in Waikiki in September, to coincide with our 9th wedding anniversary. An ideas on where we could go for dinner to mark this occassion. The last time we were there we had dinner at The Top 0f Waikiki.
All suggestions welcome.
John.

What's your price range, John? I have a few suggestions although a bit pricey. Let me know if you want something more in the mid-range of priciness.

Le Mer, Halekulani Hotel

The Beachhouse, Westin Moana Surfrider Hotel

Alan Wong's

3660 On The Rise

Roy's (the one in Kahala is supposedly better than the on in Waikiki)

Aloha, Congratulations on your 9th wedding anniversary. No other place in the world could be better to celebrate it, in my opinion, than Hawaii. Oahu has many fine dining locations, but if you want to have a bit of history, a garden like setting, and Hawaiiana, then there two places that my wife and I must go to when we celebrate our wedding aniverary, one being in downtown Honolulu, the secret garden of paradise called "The Willows Restaurant". If you are in Hawaii, why not eat Hawaiian. The dinner is prix fix and served buffet style, but fantastic. Only about 2 miles from Waikiki Beach. See website: www.willowshawaii.com

The other restaurant, our number one anniversary celebration location, is in Kaneohe where we lived for a while on Oahu and only about 30 minutes from Waikiki. Our daughter was married at the same location. The Haiku Gardens is a pure tropical paradise garden and at the top of the cliff that looks down on the gardens is "Haleiwa Joe's". This is a full dining experience and the service is friendly. If you go, make sure you get a garden open window table. See website: http://www.haleiwajoes.com/locations-haiku.html

If you choose elsewhere, then during your three week stay, you must visit these locations for that romantic paradise dinner. Hau'oli la Ho'amana'o (Happy Anniversary). Aloha oe.

Actually I'll say that Roy's isn't really high cost like La Mer and 3660 so you might still want to consider it. And of course there's the new one in Waikiki if you don't want to go out to Kahala. It's just that that location is their flagship restaurant.

The Halekulani has another restaurant (there are several) that is a notch below La Mer called Orchids. It should also provide a good dining and romantic experience. More mid-range and also at the hotel is the House Without a Key which is out near the pool and has an open air setting although the main dining area is under a roof. There's live music there in the evenings beginning about an hour before sunset so even if you don't have dinner there it's a great place to get an appetizer and a drink at the lounge tables near the entertainment or by the pool.

Chai's Island Bistro at the Aloha Tower Marketplace is also a good mid-range option. They have good food and live contemporary Hawaiian music each evening. I really like Chai's.

You might also try posting on the Elsewhere in America forum on www.chowhound.com. Here's a thread that might be of interest by a regular poster who knows quite a bit about eats in Hawaii:
