| San José | How to get from San Jose airport to Liberia? Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 11:41 AM UTC
hey guys,
I arrive 10am on August 1st at San Jose airport and we want to go directly to Liberia (or a beach town but that would be our main hub). How can we get from the airport to Liberia? Do we have to go into San Jose city and then connect to a bus or is there a bus from the airport going directly north-northwest? thanks! |

I have found in my travels, that you have to go to the bus station. I am almost positive that you can't go by direct bus from the airport. You should ask at the taxi stand as you exit the airport and take a cab to the bus station. I found this website: http://www.costarica.com/Trip-Planning/Getting-Aro
Know that there is more than one bus station--there is a bus terminal for the Carribean in a different place (downtown by the Children's museum) from the buses going to the Pacific, or west of San Jose. Depending on how much money you have to spend, you could hire someone to take you there. We hired a fella named Gerardo and on July 15, 2008, he charged us $200 (for 6 of us) to go from the airport to Flamingo Beach which is 45 minutes on the other side of Liberia. Here is his website: http://gerardo.cr-2.com/ You can always use Interbus, but I have never used them and have no idea of their prices https://www.interbusonline.com/ Suerte!!

The fastest way is to fly, this can take around 40 minutes vrs. the 4.5 -5 hour drive that awaits by ground. flights can range between $80.00 - $116.00 (you can consult this through www.natureair.com) or by ground could run up to $250.00 depending on how many people you travel with and what vehicle (and degree of comfort) you choose. Car Rental is also an option, the drive is pretty easy. have a great trip!

Flying is definately the fastest way if expense is not a concern. This would be through Sansa airline at the main airport or Nature Air at Pavas airport, requiring a taxi. If you plan to take a bus you are probably more on a budget. I always take the bus and don't mind this option for getting around. There are some buses that leave from Alajuela, which is the town where the airport is. There is a great website for finding bus schedules that is better than most on the internet. Most just have the main buses. This one has smaller bus companies too so you can even get from beach town to beach town. Check out www.busschedule.com/cr. This will show you entire routes including bus changes if needed to get from one place to another. By the way. It may take you a little while to get to Liberia from there. It takes a while to get from one place to another in this country.
