| Brisbane | VT Newbie Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 04:01 AM UTC
Hi all,
This is not actually a question I am posting. I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to this forum and it looks facinating. Hopefully I have posted in the right area :o) I am Glenda from Linville, which is about 90 minutes north west of Brisbane. I am married and have 4 kids who are all pretty much fully grown. I went on my first cruise in May this year and I was hooked. I'm now a cruise tragic and have another in August and one in September. The dream is to go to India one day. I just wish I could travel 24x7 there is so much to see in out wonderful world. Hope you all are having a wonderful day, Glenda |

Hi Glenda and welcome.
You can travel 24/7, just wander through the pages of fellow VT members and you can share the World. Get building a few pages so we can read all about you too. Am a bit of a Newbie myself but am finding the experience most enjoyable and compulsive. Like showing your travel photos to an endless supply of friends. So greetings from the UK where you can visit today in our virtual world, very best to you. Cathy

Hello and welcome to VT. Feel free to ask any travel questions you want or just cruise around and enjoy the silliness of the miscellaneous forum. Things do tent to be a bit quieter during the Oz day time, but it livens up when the rest of the worl wakes up. Any way have Fun Jo

Wowmoment, Josilver, Maryimelda,
A huge thank you all for your wonderful welcome, look forward to getting to know you all. Just getting the hang of this, wasn't sure if I should reply to all individually or as a group. Should have it figured out in a day or two. I have had some help so far from NewYork40, which has really helped me understand how this forum works. So far my photos are on my homepage, I am trying to add them all there, but my son has the majority ready to add and he has been busy of late. Hoping he will also get to doing the video of our last cruise. Glenda

Welcome from me too!
We don't get too many Reviews of Cruises on VT - lots of Forum Questions about what to do and where to go ashore as independent travellers from people not wanting to take the prganised tours - so hope to see your Cruise Pages and pictures. Probably you would need to create those pages them under the main destination of the cruise as I don't think we have "Cruises" as a general destination. Best of Luck - it's easy once you start.

Hi Ranger49,
Thank you for your warm welcome. I plan on writing a review about this next cruise and once I have VT figured out then I will know how and wear to post. And would love to be able to help people with cruise questions. I love the South Pacific as I grew up there, so to cruise that area brings back some wonderful childhood memories and of course it is very beautiful and warm. But I also find the ship itself is almost a destination as I love being out on the ocean. I noticed that you live in Wales, this is one of the places I must visit soon. My grandmother was from Barmouth and her father was a ships captain and a member of the lifeboat crew there. I have had a longing to go there for many years and see where my grandmother grew up. I was given a good welsh name, "Glenda Olwyn". Look forward to getting to know you on VT. Glenda

Hi Glenda, a warm welcome to VT from a fellow Brisbanite. This is such a great resource and I'm sure you'll love it.
Talk about cruises, we had a memorable cruise in January this year with the Bhaya on Halong Bay. The scenery was stunning, particularly relaxing on deck during Happy Hour!

My son pointed out this best cruise Glenda!!...it went from here in Fremantle up to Broome, Singapore, Thailand, India, Maldives, Madesgasgar, South Africa, Sechellies, Mauricius, some french island nearby & back to Fremantle. I'd love to do that one....but it costs nearly $10,000 each!! ;o)

It is really expensive, I think because it is so different.
Best price so far with air from Brissy is just over $7,800. But I found one for $5,800 each for a triple cabin. But for us that would still be $17,000! I get the feeling that my husband has picked this one as the next cruise so I will stop booking other cheapies. Not sure how we are ever going to do it though at that price and the length of time involved. Maybe a little miracle will come our way, or a great big huge miracle!

Well Glenda, that is a bargain!! And when you consider the amount is costs us Aussies to go to Europe....& for accommodation & food....the cruise option is certainly a great alternative idea!! I bet you're excited about your up & coming one!! :o)

Hi Ann,
It is possible to cruise for around the $100 a day, give or take $100 over all. So on that theory this one even at$5,800 for 45 days is expensive. There is one coming up to Hawaii for 19 days at $1,900, plus air which I am told you can pick up for around the $350 from Brissy. For me as a Mum a cruise is fantastic when your kids eat all the time as mine tend to. They have very fast metabolisms. It is all your food, entertainment and travel in one. The only part that can get expensive is your drinks which are about the same price as pubs and restraunts. But in reality any excuse for a cruise will do me!

Well as far as grog is concerned Glenda....we spent a fortune on it.....let me find one of my pix....you'll like this one ;o) ...stay tuned for the new ppp.
Hey Trish, that sounds like a good cruise....especially going from Freo....no need to fly anywhere. And Glenda....talking about flying....$350 is a total bargain to Hawaii?....Doesn't seem possible? Col & Sue (2Cities1Love) are doing their 1st cruise around Hawaii on their up & coming Canada/Alaska/Hawaii trip....lucky them!! ;o)

Love the picture Ann.
The Hawaii price for the flight is apparently through Jet Star, it is only the flight back. Jet star have the flights for around $600 but they have specials and it is often reduced or so I have been told. Given that this Hawaii cruise is a way off in 2010 that leaves lots of time for special prices. The Hawaii one heads out to British Columbia after Hawaii and so far the price is only $1,300 for that leg, great deal. Would be a great B2B. As Trish says any excuse to cwooze :o) Trish's Rhapsody cruise is going to be fantastic, would sooooooooo love to be on it, that ship looks so amazing and I was booked, but cancelled, very sad about that. Hey Trish, that sounds like a good cruise....especially going from Freo....no need to fly anywhere. Col & Sue cruise sounds wonderful, I would love to see Alaska, but I am a little bit scared of the cold, a tiny bit of titanic paranoia! Gosh, my family would about now be telling me to stop talking about cruises. Ah the dreams 'sigh'

Glenda & Ann,
The Rhapsody cruise ends up in Sydney so we have to fly back home. We won't be staying any extra days in Sydney because I would have already been away for 18 nights and I can't leave the girls any longer. It will be soooooo hard to just jump on the plane and go straight home!! lol.

Hi Trish,
That will be so hard for you to not spend the time in Sydney, but 18 nights is a really long time away from the kids. Perhaps one little night in Sydney on top of the 18 would be okay. But maybe by the time you have been away for that long you woll be longing to go home.

Welcome aboard VT. I am a relative newbie myself but I love this website and as you say - why can't we travel 24/7???
Enjoy this site. I have to limit the places I look at as I find too many places I HAVE to see. Have a great weekend (only one day to go) from a fellow Queenslander.
